Brick, flint and curved stone

A garden that falls away from the house is a garden you look at rather than walk into. Terracing is what turns a slope back into usable space.

Brick and flint retaining walls hold each level, picking up the local vernacular so the structure looks like it belongs rather than like engineering. Curved sandstone steps sweep between them, wide enough to sit on and generous enough not to feel like a fire escape.

Planting is kept deliberately restrained against all that texture. Acers for spring and autumn colour, agapanthus in terracotta, and a woodland backdrop of mature pines borrowed from beyond the boundary.
